The Bronx RHIO is building an electronic health information exchange that will enable providers to access critical patient information from multiple sources when and where it is needed. It will help providers to deliver optimal care to their patients while reducing inefficiency and the costs associated with duplicative tests, uncoordinated care and adverse events.
Authorized clinicians will be able view data assembled in a Virtual Patient Record displayed through a secure web portal. The initial core data set includes lab, medications, diagnoses, procedures, encounters and demographic information. The next priorities are Medicaid data, discharge summaries, radiology reports, cardiology reports and EKGs, and microbiology and pathology reports.
The Bronx RHIO went "live" in June 2008 with data from all Montefiore Medical Center(except home care), Bronx Community Health Network, Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Bronx Lebanon Special Care Center, Children's Hospital at Montefiore and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Medical Center. Data from other Participants will be added to the health information exchange in later phases of implementation. All Participants have data viewing capability.
